Counseling
I've worked in the mental health field since 2005 and have worked as a therapist since 2010 in a variety of settings. Throughout that time I've helped people overcome very challenging situations and find meaning in this life. It's a gift to be with others during these vulnerable times and even more of a gift when clients thrive and make the changes they desire. Often we carry unconscious beliefs that interfere with taking the steps necessary to make the desired changes.
I've lived through my fair share of challenges as well as been blessed with a wonderful life. Despite the challenge we can always learn from one another and change our ways to become the best person we can possible be. We create habits and our personality from our beliefs over time and when they're unhealthy, self defeating and limiting we will find ourselves feeling stuck, depressed, anxious and lost. I help clients reconnect and heal themselves through understanding their family of origins and attachment style, exploring core values and strengths and in using effective skills to survive today's stressful world. Many of us weren't taught the skills needed to build and maintain healthy loving connections and relationship. Many are feeling more disconnected and separate from one another more today than ever before. Its essential for us to bring love and light to the world for ourselves and our collective human existence. There are simple daily practices that can enhance our life experience significantly with very little effort.
Attention Deficit Disorder
I was diagnosed with ADD follow a tragic accident when I was 34. I've lived a much happier, healthier and functional life since getting this diagnosis and starting treatment. ADD can present with hyperactive/impulsive symptoms or inattentive symptoms or a combination of both. It's a neurodevelopmental disorder and impacts all major areas of functioning not just attention and impulse control. It impacts a significant number of people both those living with the condition and those close to them. The challenges that the dysfunction causes often leads people to feel depressed, anxious, hopeless and feel helpless towards making lasting change. The disorder doesn't go away instead we learn to live with it by identifying our motivations, adapting new systems and behavioral strategies, and making one small change at a time until you find what works for you. I help clients develop new systems, problem solve and support them in being accountable towards meeting their goals.
My Approach
I've provide supportive talk therapy using a variety of therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and multiple alternative healing treatments. I am very compassionate, caring and calm and use my intuition and empathy to help guide me towards what you need to heal. I provide a trauma informed approach to help you feel safe and build trust within the therapeutic relationship and will listen openly and without judgement.
We will begin therapy by gathering historical information and specifics about the current problem and symptoms to help formulate a diagnosis and identify treatment goals. We will determine the priority areas and begin to take action steps immediately. Often I start by helping the person reconnect with self through their values and self reflection while helping them identify areas that interfere with living life more fully.
